The International Girls in ICT day is a day set aside by the International Telecommunications Union (ITU), an agency of the United Nations, to advocate for the creation of a global environment, that empowers and encourages girls and young women to consider careers in the growing field of ICTs, enabling both girls and technology companies to reap the benefits of greater female participation in the ICT sector. The theme for this year is ‘Expand Horizons, change attitudes’. We are organizing a seminar/careerfair where experts from different aspects of the ICT value chain will be present to speak to girls in Senior Secondary Schools in Port-Harcourt, on opportunities that exist in the ICT sector. This includes software programming, digital marketing, technology lawyers and policy experts, techprenuers, bloggers and entrepreneurs leveraging on ICT.

Notable speakers at the event include Mrs Bitebo Gogo, Executive Director of Keeping It Real Foundation, Uki Asemota, Special Adviser to the Deputy Governor on digital media, Perrie Fidelis, UI/UX designer and a leading female officer of Cinfores, one of the leading ICT firms in Port-Harcourt.
