The Digital rights and freedom Bill was passed by the Nigerian House of Representatives yesterday.

The Bill which was sponsored by Hon Chukwuemeka Ujam was passed yesterday by the Lower Chamber of the Nigerian National Assembly. The Bill was championed by Paradigm Initiative and the Net Rights Coalition, a coalition of Civil Society Organisations in the digital rights space.

According to Adeboye Adegoke, Digital Policy Manager, Magoyi for Paradigm Initiative, ‘ It is great news for digital rights even as we begin the holiday’.

The core  objective of the bill is to protect the fundamental freedoms of every Nigerian online. The Bill touches on important areas like data and digital privacy, surveillance, e governance, lawful interception.
