World Wide Web Day is celebrated on the 1st of August annually and marks the birth of the Web in August 1990

The world wide web was founded by Sir Tim Berners-Lee, Founder of the Web Foundation and one of Time Magazine’s ‘100 Most Important People of the 20th Century’. He and colleague Robert Cailliau wrote the proposal for the World wide web in 1989 and subsequently developed a prototype Web browser and introduced Hypertext Markup Language,HTML.

It was founded by Sir Tim Berners-Lee at the Europe Laboratory for Particle Physics (CERN) in Switzerland

The first ever website was published on August 6, 1991. The URL for the first ever web page put up on the first ever website was http://info.cern.ch/hypertext/WWW/TheProject.html

The world wide web is not synonymous with the internet. It is a service that operates over the Internet, similar to the email. The internet was founded long before the world wide web
