Nigerian author, Nnedi Okorafor’s World Fantasy Award-winning novel Who Fears Death is being adapted into a HBO TV Series. It will be produced by none other than, wait for it… popular Game of Thrones author, George R.R Martin

The author who describes herself as Naijamerican on twitter, took to her twitter and  Facebook page to announce this yesterday

She wrote “Note: This did not happen overnight. It’s been nearly 4 years coming.”

She also added on Facebook

“i am very involved. i also know george well (we met in 2014 and stayed in touch); he’s been a sort of mentor to me through all this. and all those involved know what this story is; onyesonwu is in good good hands.”

Who Fears Death is a fantasy story of Onyesonwu, a woman living in post-apocalyptic Sudan with a variety of magical abilities, where the dark-skinned Okeke people live as second class citizens. They are oppressed and routinely murdered by the lighter-skinned Nuru.

If George’s track record with GOT is anything to go by, we believe that he will do justice to this adaptation. No date has yet been announced for the airing of the series. So while we wait, i will go grab a copy of the book. Thanks  Nnedi for making us proud.
