Popular and affordable phone brand, Tecno, have promised to begin release software upgrades for their devices. The updates are meant to drop later this year. First updates are rumored to drop early August. Tecno made the announcement in a recent blog post
From the onset, Tecno users have been facing the dilemma of being stuck on whatever Android OS the phones come with, be it Jelly Bean(4.2), Kitkat(4.4), Lolipop(5.0) or Marshmallow(6.0). This has been a major challenge to tecno subscribers, forcing them to either download a custom ROM to update which in essence voids the warranty of the phone or end up selling the phone with plans to buy a new one with a higher OS.
To make matters worse, rivals INFINIX, started releasing updates, mounting more pressure on the TECNO giants.
Finally, just last month, Tecno dropped this post on their blog
“it has come to our notice that majority of our fans have desired Android OS updates to our devices. We would like to inform our esteemed fans that software upgrades would be released for our devices and we are on top of the matter.
Please bear with us while our engineers work on this assiduously.
Thank you for always being with us”
Flagship phones of 2016; Tecno Phantom 6 and 6+ should be receiving the first set of updates, moving them from Android 6.0 Marshmallow to 7.0 Nougart.
Let’s keep our fingers crossed and hope Tecno delivers on their promise.
